For this project, we aim to bring new life to the old Customs House along the Ladder Bay Trail. This historic building is a significant landmark on Saba, serving as the island’s only entry point before the road was built. Currently, the Customs House is in poor condition and its historical value is not fully visible. Our goal is to restore its charm and importance by giving it a fresh coat of paint and making key structural improvements. This project offers a hands-on opportunity for participants to contribute to preserving Saba’s cultural heritage. By carefully repairing and refreshing the building, we hope to honor its history while making it a safe and visually appealing landmark for visitors and locals alike.
Snacks and drinks will be provided, ensuring a fun and rewarding experience as you help revitalize this iconic site. This project is perfect for anyone interested in history, community work, or simply enjoying an active day outdoors while making a lasting impact.
Volunteers should bring sun-protective clothing that can get dirty (since we’ll be painting and doing construction work), sturdy hiking shoes, and plenty of water.

By the end of this project, the old Customs House will be restored as a visible and valued historical landmark. The fresh paint and structural improvements will enhance its appearance and safety, allowing visitors to appreciate its historical significance. The project will help preserve Saba’s cultural heritage and create a sense of pride in the community, while providing an inviting site for both education and tourism. Ultimately, the Customs House will once again stand as a symbol of Saba’s history and resilience.
