The Botanical Garden Improvement Project focuses on strengthening the herb garden and creating more comfortable seating areas for visitors. A variety of herbs will be planted in pots and nurtured in the greenhouse and shade house until they are strong enough to be transplanted into nearby garden. This will help establish a healthy, vibrant herb garden that adds fragrance, greenery, and educational value to the space. Minor repairs to the greenhouse roof will also be made to ensure young plants have a safe environment to grow.
At the same time, several seating areas throughout the garden will be improved to make the space more welcoming. Benches will be refreshed, the surrounding ground will be cleared and improved, and small protective roofs will be installed above the benches to provide shelter from rain and falling debris. These improvements will create clean, comfortable places where visitors can relax and enjoy the garden.
Volunteers should bring sun-protective clothing that can get dirty (since we’ll be painting and doing construction work), sturdy hiking shoes, and plenty of water
The project will involve community volunteers of all ages who will assist with planting herbs, preparing garden beds, and improving seating areas, while learning about gardening. Snacks and drinks will be provided.
